Our Pathologists
“Pathology offered the ability to look at the details and art of medicine; where Cytology slides are much like evaluating the components of a picture.”
Nicole A. Massoll, M.D.
Nicole A. Massoll M.D. is board certified in both Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology. She received her medical degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock, Arkansas, and spent the next three years in a general surgery residency. Dr. Massoll soon discovered her true calling and decided to pursue a residency in pathology. “Pathology offered the ability to look at the details and art of medicine; where Cytology slides are much like evaluating the components of a picture.” In 2001, Dr Massoll accepted a Cytopathology fellowship at the University of Florida where she trained with renowned genitourinary pathologist Dr. William Murphy, as well as with Dr. Ernie Mazzaferri in endocrinology. Under her leadership, Dr. Massoll was instrumental in expanding the University’s FNA clinic. She also served on numerous committees, published, participated in national conferences and became a mentor to many medical students and residents.
In 2009, Dr. Massoll decided to return to Little Rock, where she is a Professor of Pathology, Medical Director of the School of Cytopathology, College of Public Health, UAMS and Director of Cytopathology at UAMS. She has continued her teaching through the Endocrine Society and the American Thyroid Association at the ultrasound Courses. Dr. Massoll also holds the position of Medical Director for several organizations including FNApath, which she founded in 2007, and shares her expertise as a consultant for multiple organizations including holding a position on the advisory board of a genomics company.
Dr. Massoll and her husband have four children and in their free time enjoy traveling.
